Falcon Drilling established the Mexican International office in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora during September of 2007 with the primary objective of bringing new and more efficient drilling techniques to the Mexican mining exploration industry. Mr. Eli Tennant is the Managing Director and Mrs. Brenda Carranza is General Manager exercising control over all local operations. Mr. Tennant has had 38 years experience managing globally diverse drilling operations for companies such as Algoma Ore (Canada), Coats Drilling (Canada and USA), Major Drilling (Canada, USA, Mexico Central and South America) and Can-Asia (Mongolia).
Ms. Brenda Carranza has previously had ten years of professional, managerial and marketing experience in the mining industry (exploration drilling company) with Major Drilling in Mexico, Central and South America. She also spent six years managing and supervising the logistics, planning and purchasing of raw materials in the Manufacturing Industry (Leoni Wiring Systems Mexicana) as well as another six years of diversified experience and positions within this industry. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.”
The first project, located in Durango, was undertaken for Soho Resources and was for 10,000 meters of H and N core . Falcon successfully drilled 2 holes that four other previous drilling companies had failed to complete due to a layer overburden some 80 meters in depth. The project was completed in five months due to very high drilling production rates. A second smaller project, Corozanada, located in Cuernavaca, for 2000 meters of H was started on July 27th for Zinifex Mexico and was completed September 13th 2008. The drilling conditions were complicated by extreme mud and clay conditions. In July 2008 Zinifex merged with Oxina Limited and formed part of the newly named OZ Minierals Limited.
The latest current project, started on schedule on 16th October 2008, is for Las Encinas. Las Encinas is a division Ternium Mexico which is part of one of the worlds largest Iron and Steel mining and processing companies. Ternium México is a vertically integrated company whose activities include the exploration and mining of ore as well as steel production and manufacture and distribution of high value finished products. The contract included the design and construction of a camp and facilities for the drilling crew. The nature of the terrain and the relatively short depth of each hole requires intensive helicopter support using an Aerospatial Llama helicopter to move drill rigs frequently and deploy crews and supplies effectively. Falcon has had extensive experience in this type of airborne support operation on a worldwide basis and is achieving very high core yields per shift on this operation.
