Falcon provided drilling services to Viceroy
Resource Corporation on the Gualcamayo project. Drilling
operations are at an elevation of 1500 to 2000 metres and use NQ
and HQ down hole tools drilling to a typical depth of 300 metres.
It is hoped that the F1000 drill rig will soon be in operation
using BTW sized tools. Water supplies for the drill rigs are
pumped in via a pipeline approximately 10 kms long.
The project was located in the San Juan province, Guandacol
district, Argentina and hosts both gold/base metal skarn and
epithermal gold mineralization in brecciated limestones, marble
and dacite porphyries. The 914 hectare project could have been operated on
a year round basis. It was joint ventured from Mincorp
Exploraciones S.A. in mid 1997. Viceroy had the right to earn a
60% interest in the property through its 100% ownership in Minas
Argentinas S.A. by spending US$5.0 million. In
addition to the 2630 hectares covered by the joint venture
Viceroy also controls an additional 45,000 hectares surrounding
the project.
Geological mapping, sampling and a 2600 metre diamond drilling
program confirmed the presence of widespread mineralization,
extending the zone for at least 1 kilomtere along strike, up to
200 metres down-dip and defining a vertical extent of up to 300
metrres. Significant intercepts are summarized in table 1
